Taliban-fired mortar kills 4 civilians in Helmand

Four civilian people, including two women, were killed when a Taliban-fired mortar hit a civilian home in the Nawzad district of southern province of Helmand on Thursday.

The fatalities happened on Thursday when the Taliban insurgents wanted to hit an Afghan National Civil Order Police (ANCOP) forces’ checkpoint following a gun-battle in the Jazi area of the district. But the mortar fell inside a house, killing four people, including two women. Elsewhere in the province, a civilian died in a roadside bombing in the Shawal area of Nad-Ali district.

The Taliban rebels regularly plant roadside bombs to target Afghan and NATO forces, but the devices often kill Afghan civilians.

Extending his deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the bereaved families, the Helmand governor, Al haj Muhammad Naeem, strongly denounced the attacks as a cowardly act.

The governor prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant fortitude to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss.
