Three Taliban militants killed, 7 wounded in Helmand clash

Monday 10th February 2014: Three Taliban insurgents were killed and seven others sustained injures during a gun-battle with Afghan army forces on Monday in southern province of Helmand, local officials claimed.

The shootout broke out after a group of Taliban rebels had planned to launch a gun assault on a World Food Programme (WFP)’s convoy in the Nar-I-Siraj area of the Gereshk district of Helmand province, the Afghan army 215 Mawaind Military Corps’ officials said on Tuesday. The Mawaind Corps troops received information and arrived in the area and conducted an operation that led to the armed skirmish, leaving three Taliban guerrillas dead and seven others injured, they added.

 The Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel suffered no casualties in the clash.
